Eko-Konnect is a cluster of the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN). We aim to support network connectivity and collaborations between education and research organisations as part of wider efforts for sustainable National Research and Education Network (NREN).

Established in December 2009 as an initiative led by the University of Lagos, Datasphir Solutions Limited and the Internet Exchange Point Of Nigeria to exploit the geographical proximity to sea cables and telecommunication companies to secure high-speed and affordable Internet connectivity for the research and education community.

Our Mission:
Build and sustain a research and education network (REN) in Nigeria through the promotion, establishment and interconnection of clusters in the six geopolitical regions, and contribute to its growth by delivering connectivity, and advanced services and supporting the constituent communities of practice.

Our Vision:
To lead in the development of an innovative ecosystem for research and education in Nigeria.

Our Objectives:

  • Connecting participating institutions in a high-speed network suitable for research and academic activities.
  • Interoperability between research organisations and higher education networks that enable secure, anytime, anywhere access by students, teachers and researchers.
  • Foster collaborative research based on network technology and the development of internet resources, training, and communities of practice (user groups) amongst participating institutions.
  • Collaboration with other stakeholders to establish the NREN and regional REN.

  • Full participation in the Global REN.

  • Support for Open Science and Open Access.

Eko-Konnect is registered in Nigeria as a non-profit association to further these aims and objectives.
